Energy saving project in Enschede: Collaboration between Stichting Pioneering and municipality of Enschede wih Energygrip
Challenge:
Stichting Pioneering, in collaboration with the municipality of Enschede, initiated a large-scale savings project in Enschede with the help of the RRE subsidy. The goal was to support residents in gaining insight into their energy consumption with the ultimate aim of achieving energy savings. For this project, the organization chose a combination of two pillars of EnergyGrip: the gateway and the app.
Solution:
Energieloket Enschede, a collaboration including Stichting Pioneering, serves as a platform to enable residents, both homeowners and tenants, to tackle energy waste themselves. It offers free energy-saving products to residents through an online Savings Shop, using a smart points system to allow residents to make choices. All energy insight products in the Savings Shop, including the Consumption Monitor and Consumption Monitor Lite, are provided by Aurum.
Energieloket Enschede, with the implementation of EnergyGrip and the Consumption Monitor, has played a significant role in promoting energy awareness and facilitating energy savings for residents in Enschede. More information is available on the Energieloket Enschede website.
Implementation:
- Pilot with Huisbaasje (EnergyFlip): In 2019, a pilot was launched with the distribution of 200 Huisbaasjes (now called EnergyFlip) to energy coaches and residents. Real-time energy data was used to determine the most effective savings measures and products.
- Purchase of the entire measurement chain: Following a successful pilot, Energieloket Enschede decided to purchase the entire measurement chain, but in their own style. A custom version of the Huisbaasje/EnergyFlip app was developed and named ‘Consumption Monitor.’ This app, the packaging sleeve, and the service desk were branded with the look & feel of Energieloket Enschede.
- Expansion to consumption monitor Lite: For business customers, Aurum provides the real-time app (with a gateway for the meter box) and recently also the Lite version. This version does not load energy data in the meter box but through the network operators. Aurum, as a registered ODA (Independent Service Provider), can read smart meter data via the network operator with user permission, eliminating the need for hardware.
- White label App and consistent brand experience: Aurum published the Consumption Monitor app in the app stores under the name of Energieloket Enschede, ensuring a consistent brand experience for users. Energieloket Enschede did not have to develop their own app but could use a proven off-the-shelf product.
- First-line helpdesk: Aurum provides users with a first-line helpdesk for content and technical questions, allowing Energieloket Enschede to focus on their core activities.
Results:
- Large-scale reach: Energieloket Enschede achieved large-scale reach among residents with the Consumption Monitor, including both homeowners and tenants.
- Brand-specific adjustments: The Consumption Monitor app, packaging, and service desk are tailored to the brand experience of Energieloket Enschede.
- Cost savings: The use of a proven product and the support of a first-line helpdesk helped Energieloket Enschede save costs.
