EnergyGrip is implemented as the solution for smartening district heating meters. The key features of the implementation include:

  1. Smart gateway: EnergyGrip uses smart IoT gateways that collect data from existing district heating meters via NB-IoT (and LTE-M) from Vodafone. This provides a reliable and always accessible data stream.
  2. Billing data for Vattenfall: The reliable data from EnergyGrip is used to provide the necessary billing data for the monthly invoice to Vattenfall’s customers in the Netherlands.
  3. Optimization of the district heating network: The data, combined with other smart information in EnergyGrip, is used to optimize the district heating network. This includes predictive maintenance and gathering information for informed management.
  4. End customer information and app access: EnergyGrip makes up-to-date information easily accessible via an API connection to end customers through Vattenfall’s own app. This leads to higher customer satisfaction by providing continuous insight into energy consumption and the monthly bill.
